OK Dan, I mentioned this about 6 months ago, if you were going out today to buy a 360 degree video/still camera which one would you buy with a budget of $1000

This vimeo announcement has pushed my purchase plans forward and need some solid advice and I don't know anyone with as much knowledge as you and the other WGA members so hit me with it

@3dshowcaseuk

If you have a Samsung phone, get either:

Samsung Gear 360º Camera ($319)
Insta360 Air ($129)

If you have an iPhone, get:

Insta360 Nano ($199)

If you want seamless integration with immoviewer platform, get:

Ricoh Theta S

If you get the Insta360 Air or Insta360 Nano, get a blue-tooth remote.

While I am still test driving the Insta360 Air that I received last week, so far I like it better than the Ricoh Theta S.

The key key benefits of shooting video with the Insta360 Air versus Ricoh Theta S are:

✓ no transfer time (it already records onto the smartphone
✓ big thumbnails with video length (especially helpful when shooting from the identical locations
✓ instant playback (no processing delay

Do buy various accessories, including:

Pro selfie pole designed for Ricoh Theta S
adapters (so you can use your Pro tripod)
I this mini-tripod. Pair it with an extendable selfie pole
✓ If you get the Ricoh Theta S, get this extender so that you can charge while shooting
✓ I haven't tried this pole, but looks promising

@3SixtyNow ...

I saw that you started a new thread on the same topic. So, I removed the new topic and posted your note here.

I know that you mentioned that you are willing to spend up to $1,000. That said, you'll do fine with $500, including accessories.

I recall at $2,500 360º Camera that was announced at CES 2017, but I do not believe it is out yet.

I encourage (everyone) to get a 360º camera. You will learn so much about work-flow and storytelling, that when the next generation of under $1,000 360º cameras arrive, you'll be ready.

My impression is that 8K 360º video - or at least 4K 360º video - will be necessary before any of us feel like the tech meets our expectations for video quality.

This is an interesting under $100 360º solution, but it will not be ready until at least mid-April. It will give you a taste of what's possible.

Best,

Dan

Someone help me out here. I can't see any advantage of this 360 video over Matterport when it comes to seeing inside of a home. Unless you can move through the home the same way as you can with a video cameras with walking shots, a static shot of 360 video isn't different to what Matterport does. And then you are dictated to following where ever the edit of the video takes you where as with Matterport, you are free to go where ever you like. So what am I missing here? The time it takes to shoot the video over doing a Matterport 3D Tour?
