[R&D] Matterport in Microsoft HoloLens5042

I'd like to share a new project that we just delivered to Microsoft. We have been working for quite some time with the group managing their event spaces. After 3D scanning all the major conference rooms in various configurations, we wanted to explore the use of mixed reality to visualize these 3D models.

Our team developed a Unity app for Microsoft HoloLens which has the ability to use hand gestures and voice commands to load various OBJ meshes, as well as a clean CAD version.

The app is simple in nature, yet it showcases the potential of this new medium. Imagine if you could select different configurations of various rooms, with additional data points (capacity, availability) and photos of recent events.

HoloLens is quite an expensive device ($3300 in USA) and definitely meant for B2B. I agree with MSP @TrustedPhotoDC that Apple ARKit is better suited to democratize AR in the long term.

Special thanks to our developer Suzanna Kovoor and to MSP @dannybasting for partnering with us on the creation of the clean model out of a MP point cloud. His work of MP in VR is quite inspiring.

If you don´t mind I could show this to Microsoft HQ Germany.
We do the scanning, you the rest.

Also the University of Bayreuth and others here in munich could be interested: http://dldcampus-ubt.showit360.de

Will fix the missing parts in august.
Let´s stay in touch.

@Tosolini Excellent use of the combined technology. I'm excited to see what other magic tricks you come up with in the future with your association with MS.

Also cheaper and even better: ODG´s one
I tried ODG R8 at DLDcampus and it´s really not that bad.
The R8 will be a consumer device for $1.000.

@Tosolini

Awesome Work!

On another note, I just used Visme for the first time to put together a presentation for the TWA Museum and that is one really slick tool! Loved being able to embed iFrames into the presentation!

Thank you!
