Last year's 'Ready' designations are down to 2. Unless I was snoozing, there was no mention of these programs being terminated.

Before GSV Summit:

A quick look at the specs tells me that NCTech Pulsar is compliant to the STREETVIEW PRO GRADE and that the Ricoh Theta V (with summer upgrade - 5fps) are compliant with the STREETVIEW STANDARD specs.

So if you look at the list of cameras that was released in another thread they seem to align with the 2 new colours, Matterport still in there. https://www.google.com/streetview/publish/

@Metroplex360

I could imagine that Google concluded that the four different Google Certification categories are confusing and now simply refer to cameras, platforms and software as Google Street View Ready.

If I remember correctly from the Q&A session with CA at the SV Summit Google is nixing the VR Ready program and prioritizing other opportunities. The key term in VR ready is "geometry" meaning that a 3D object would have been pushed to SV. This is disappointing to Matterport (takes 3D scans), and apparently NC Tech, and of course Cupix (generates a 3D Mesh).

@scott_cupix @DanSmigrod I thought that 'VR Ready' was a bit of a bad term ... because, Scott is quite correct - the idea was that Google wanted to use 'geometry'.

And yes, I was EXPECTING this to be fulfilled by Cupix, Matterport and NC Tech. NC Tech's device failed to launch, which would have left Cupix and Matterport.

I will say that during the Q&A session that I attended, Charles Armstrong did make a side acknowledgement that there was something special about devices that auto align and understand 3D geometry. It was a nod to Matterport, but it was an open ended one that would have been inclusive of Cupix.

I'm not sure that there was much to read in beyond the fact that the current state of indoor tours is a mix mash of panoramas placed in an adhoc approximate matter. Anyone who is serious about proper placement of panoramas in the real world for potential machine learning reasons would find correctly placed images containing geometry much much more useful and while there may not currently be any initiatives at Google to use this data -- there is still interest.

That's my 100% completely read-between-the-lines inferred take away.

Per CA in a breakout session, the team and resources working on VR ready, were moved to the AR team or already part of it, and priorities changed.
