Your next BFF needs to work at a Destination Marketing Organization (DMO).

“DMO’s are ideal content partners, typically the only organizations tasked and funded to promote the overall image of a destination," said Miles Partnership SVP Nate Huff during his presentation at the 2018 Google Street View Summit. "There is clearly an opportunity to improve and update 360 and Street View imagery in partnership with DMOs."

What's a DMO?

Typically, a DMO – often going by three letters such as CVB, National or Regional Tourism Board (NTB, RTB), RTN, NTO – "help travelers decide where to go, where to stay and what to do by providing quality content about the destination," said Nate. It's the same mission as Google Maps. So, there is a perfect fit.

"[DMOs] are tasked with developing long-term travel and tourism marketing strategy to bring visitors to that location," said Nate. That translates to a ton of quality generated visual content.

There are 4,200 DMOs worldwide representing $10 billion in spending and touching half of all travelers at least once in their travel planning.

With sites such as Google Street View getting more and more traffic as people decide where to go, where to stay and what to do, it becomes ever-increasing important for DMOs to grow quality content beyond self-owned channels.
