I am keen to invest in Virtual tours and 3D showcase of properties.

1. Which is the best camera to acquire?
2. I have read about Matterport, can you use the processed image independently from their hosting platform?

By my experience the Matterport Pro2 is the best currently.
But before you buy it would you please read the TOS first. Some friends can't accept some points in the TOS.
You must accept all of them to use Matterport Pro2.

You can download the processed image (360 degree panoroma pictures) officially but they are not at the maximum resolution. With some 3rd party services you can get 16K x 8K output.

Here is one example of 16K x 8K panoroma from https://my.matterport.com/show/?m=Re2dgaSVCRj
