Video: Are all chickens the same? Why does that Matter?

Hi All,

The Matterport kerfuffle Tuesday (18 July 2017) begs the question, "Is Matterport a Commodity?"

Certainly the Matterport fixed pricing seems to say so.

Any reason that is is advantageous for Matterport to turn Matterport Spaces 3D Tours into a commodity?

I'd like to think that the We Get Around Forum is a Community of creative professionals seeking to provide and create the best possible experiences for our clients.

Matterport seems to be saying, "good enough" is fine. You do not need to command a premium for your services. And, we'll tell you what your good enough, commodity services are worth.

What do you think?

1. Is Matterport a commodity?
2. Should Matterport be a commodity?
3. Is Matterport treating their product like a commodity?
4. Is that good or bad?

Me? I admire Frank Perdue. (Watch the video.) I expect a premium for the quality of our service - and service experience.

Best,

Dan

That is my thinking:

1. Is Matterport a commodity?
MP is selling camera hardware to us, so the camera is commodity.
But it is a useless commondity (a dead machine) if without MP serviecs.
The data processing and hosting are services.

2. Should Matterport be a commodity?
No, it should be a services by current TOS from Matterport.

Or

Yes, it can be. But TOS must be changed.
MSP must have all rights to their contents and own them.

3. Is Matterport treating their product like a commodity?
Yes, all MSP look it like a commodity, but it is not.
This special commodity has so limited lifetime and MSP must pay monthly to make it live.
All result that MSP make money from their client is temporary and need money to buy lifetime also.

4. Is that good or bad?
It is bad for MSP but good to MP in short term, but in long term it is bad for all.

Sounds a lot like my analog Tivo's with Lifetime service sitting in my garage, now being used to hold down the painters roll.
