3D Showcase Crash since last update HELP US!36

Tim private msg quote post Address this user
Hey guys and gals, we need your help! Since the latest update we are unable to play models over about 50 scans for longer than about 4 mins on the best available laptop on the market with Internet speeds around 10mbps, after this time we get "the blue ring of doom" spinning in the centre of the screen with a blurry image in the background. We are unable to run the same model on iOS with 40mbps for longer than 30 seconds without a crash. Is anyone else experiencing trouble with this? Please help us figure out if this is an Aussie issue. Could you please try and walk through every part of this home (worth it if it works, $1.5mil South Australian gem) and communicate your experiences and Internet speed (www.speedtest.net). Your help would be greatly appreciated...

Cheers, Tim.

Hey Tim,

No problems here. Walked through the entire house with no issues.

Speed Test Results: Ping 58ms, Download 6.04, Upload 5.95

Nice house! I just go through doing a few Models yesterday and I can for sure see that you are doing a lot less sweeps than I am on a house...and am happy to see the results that you are getting with fewer sweeps. Will keep that in mind on my next models for sure. I may be overdoing it....or just giving more viewing options...not sure.

but it sounds like it could be a computer memory or cache issue that you are having...

Cheers bud, appreciate it. Think it may be more of an Australian issue somehow...

Charlie B, have you tried it on the iPad Air?

Tim,

I wanted to see how your exterior views came out. I just did a scan on a home that had incredible mountain views but you can't even tell it from the model scan.

https://my.matterport.com/webgl_player/#model=Uo87krQfpTX

I noticed some interesting, what I think Scott at Matterport calls "artifacts" when viewing your model on the open air porch....they were actually pretty cool but distracting.

Did you have any issues with your sweeps on this porch?

I tried to scan a patio on this model above and it just wouldn't stitch with the other scans just as I got out the door.

But my first scan I did it really picked up the outside buildings and hills really pretty nice but it was with the previous version of the software.

Tim,

I just tried your model on my iPad Air and it indeed locked up pretty quickly, crashed, reloaded then while using it just a little bit it did crashed again. Certainly an issue with it for some reason.

Have you tried a larger model on your iPad Air since the update the other day. Like one of your own?

You may find that is a global issue...

Tim,

Yes, no problem on the scan that I posted above....in fact let me just tell you what happened while viewing your scan again. My iPad locked up and it crashed the iPad and the screen when black and next thing I see is the Apple emblem....and we know that was a serious crash.

Something is going on and it must be with IOS 8 or something.

Ok, so just my model caused the crash and yours was fine?

Tim,

Just curious on your scan how big was this home and how many sweeps did you have?

Huge! 115 scans and approx 7000sq feet (had to convert from m2...

My scan (link posted above) just crashed on my iPad also!

I was able to play it with no issues last week when I tried it. Wonder what the difference was then?

My scan above was about 4500 sq ft and about 125 sweeps...like I mentioned above, after seeing the number of sweeps that you were doing I am either overdoing it or just giving more options. Any one have any comments on this...would appreciate your feedback. Thanks.

Matterport did an update last Friday that should have made iOS better but in fact made it worse. I have sent approx 20-30 emails to support in the past week. They are very much aware and working on it. P.s we are unable to get through my scan on huge speeds (up to 50mbps) on any desktop, laptop or other. So the fact you can has me concerned that it could be a geographical issue. If that's the case we are stuffed!

Tim,

My experience so far is that the team at Matterport is making great strides. I know that this is so new that there has to be kinks, but they are working them out. And from talking to the "early adopter" last week I get the impression that they started in the dark ages compared to what we have now.

Yesterday I also received notice of an upcoming update to the app....so things are moving along. I have confidence at this point in time that they will only improve.

I had been keeping my eye on Matterport for well over a year and honestly I didn't think we would have what we do right now and I feel good about the future. Time will tell.

For sure, ditto to most of that. I meant that if it is a server/geographical issue the ticketyview team is stuffed as currently none of our models play on anything over here since last Friday. We have a very good relationship with support. We even have our own programmer and web integration specialist working on quite a deep technical level so I certainly appreciate the situation. But it's a real challenge when you have 3 cameras already with 2 more on the way and no deliverable content...

Tim, Sounds like you are invest and should be committed...ha...just kidding...I mean committed and invested with Matterport and have a much deeper understanding of what is happening. Glad to see you going for it...I still feel it is just something that they will work out. Hang in there....we are all in the same boat.

For sure, was unfortunate timing for us as we just started talks and demos with a major national real estate chain. Have scanned over 4million worth of property in last 3 days...

Tim,

Thanks for sharing. That is awesome. Way to go!

What are you figuring out on the amount of time it takes to do a model scan?

So far for me, and at this time I have only done 4 models so I am really new at it.....it is taking me about 1 hour per 1000 sq ft in a furnished house.

The link that I posted above took me 3.5 hours for the 4400 sq ft and 125 sweeps including some editing.

Tim,

I have the same issue with my home computer using google chrome browser. The viewing is working few minutes then I get only blurred images. My internet connection is quite slow < 3Mbs but I'm not sure it's the problem because it's working good at the beginning. My computer have a NVIDIA GTX 750, an intel i3-4150 CPU and 8G of memory which is enough to run most of the last 3D games.

Regards,

Fabien

Thanks Fabien, is this true of any other large models you have viewed on the same computer in the last 3 days?

Hi tim

The scan works fine here in the UK on my desktop, I'a at 54 up and 11.4 down.

I regards to my iPad Air, the scan loads find and is sharp but when I move around using the 4 arrows the image never comes into focus although I can move from room to room. If I move too quickly it crashes and if I move touching the the screen the scan crashes and reloads.

All in all this is a no go and could cost us all our valued customers.

One other question, I have not loaded the new capture app yet and I have to do a big house next week would you and the rest of the forum recommend upgrading at this time???

BTW; it's on 2 levels with several stairs.

Thanks and good luck with your problem.

Cheers mate, new capture app is confirmed for next week. New one is easier but will crash on you until you figure it out. Hopefully it arrives before your job, but if not we could Skype and I'll tell you all I can to help, but it will still crash occasionally. Allow an extra bit of time to deal with this otherwise not a deal breaker...

You're right I have the same issue with the ARTlanta Tech Village from Dan. Looking at the dev console from the chrome browser, I have error messages (Error 403 Forbidden) regarding accesses to parts of the models (seems to be on the amazon cloud part) then looking more deeply then it seems to be related with some expiration time. Could you have access to some error output from your browser application ?
