A big shout-out to @GeorgeK and @rpetersn for pioneering the following solution adding value to Matterport with outdoor 360º photo spheres.

@GeorgeK first wrote about this solution earlier today (Wednesday, 22 June 2016) in this MUG Forum thread ...

Just what is State of the ART?

Within minutes, I exchanged emails with WP3D Models Developer Ross Peterson, and then I was out-the-door to capture a 360º photo sphere with a Ricoh Theta S ...

(See MUG Forum thread: Matterport Pros: Also Buy a Ricoh Theta S)

Anyway, I recently scanned a condo in Atlanta on the 20th floor of high-rise with an amazing view, but the Matterport Spaces 3D Tour really did show off that view.

So, I got permission to take a 360º photo sphere from the balcony earlier today and then ...

I added the 360º photo sphere to the Single Property Website generated by WP3D Models.

www.eclipsecondo2005.info

And, the 360º photo sphere automatically rotates when you scroll down the page.

While 360º photo spheres are not new - and admittedly - the quality does not compare to a Pro using Pro gear to shoot a 360º photo sphere, the magic is that for the rest of us, it is relatively easy, fast and affordable to shoot a couple of 360º photo spheres - outdoors - and add them to the deliverables (optional extra or bundled pricing) - including within the Single Property Website.

Workflow for Ricoh Theta S + WP3D Models

1. Take a 360º photo sphere with Ricoh Theta S

2. Transfer 360º photo sphere from the camera to the Ricoh Theta S app (on your phone). On an iPhone, it is now in your Camera Roll (now called Photos)

3. Select Share (If you want the 360º sphere to rotate, select Share (not Share with this orientation)

4. Select Privacy Settings Public (so you also get Embed Code)

5. Once published (may take a minute), copy the URL and email it to yourself. For example ...

https://theta360.com/s/ivdOKaLUJ1zG8bGA66RtTknb6

6. Then add (this parameter): ?view=embed

7. The URL now looks like this:

https://theta360.com/s/ivdOKaLUJ1zG8bGA66RtTknb6?view=embed

8. Copy and paste this URL

9. In WP3D Models, go to: Media --> 3rd Party Content --> check the Check Box

10. In the 3rd Party Content URL field paste the link ...

https://theta360.com/s/ivdOKaLUJ1zG8bGA66RtTknb6?view=embed

11. Select the Update Button

12. View what you just did ...
https://gallery.we-get-around.com/3d-model/250-pharr-road/skinned/

13. Create a vanity URL (See MUG Forum Post: Tip of the Day: Custom URL for Matterport Spaces 3D Tour

www.eclipsecondo2005.info

14. Celebrate. You have now added a huge amount of value for your client. You have differentiated your Matterport Service Provider Business. Charge More or Bundle.

Note: Do not use Ricoh Theta S generated embed code for the above in WP3D Models. It will not work. Do consider how to use this embed code elsewhere to create even more value:

Example of Ricoh Theta S Embed Code

<blockquote data-width="500" data-height="375" class="ricoh-theta-spherical-image" >Post from RICOH THETA. - <a href="https://theta360.com/s/jLv0X4uQgxDuQRq3DdKvBeS36" target="_blank">Spherical Image - RICOH THETA</a></blockquote>

Wow! That's great!

Figure out something else you can do with the Ricoh Theta S to add value to the Matterport eco-system and start a new topic.

Dan: I want you to know you have encouraged and inspired me. It was you that put me in touch with Ross by answering my questions. The very least I can do for you and the community of Matterport users is to share as freely as you have.

When I got the Theta S Black I saw someone comparing it to Matterport and they are different tools. Having been aided by Ross this flash came to mind can I post it? ROSS went to work and got back to me and said TRY THIS! I want to use popular street language DAMM it worked!

Everyone in the listing chain loved it, seller and agent. This is really a thank you to you and ROSS, I may be the first but you two made this possible for me and so many others that will be using it down the road.

Plus in discussion with Ross , we have another idea. But he has not said DAMM yet! (Humor Implied!)

On the tech side the Theta is not easy, set up time was a few hours (4) to figure out. I knew it could be done but the instructions "suck" the typical real estate agent will be frozen by this tool.

@GeorgeK

Thank you for sharing the ... I could use it this week

The good news / bad news / good news about the Ricoh Theta S (black) is that once you master the Ricoh, it is easy to use. The bad news is that there is a learning curve (even though it seems so simple. Which is good news, because it does take expertise to master this "easy" camera so it is unlikely that your clients will decide to do this themselves and most clients that do, will give up.)

Ha! Four hours. It's taking me days ...!!!

I have some techniques that I want to do with Ricoh Theta S and I have been taking days to figure out the workflow. (I will share it here, once I have the recipe figured-out.)

Anyway, @GeorgeK, thank you again for the shout-out. And, yes, @rpetersn is a genius.

Best,

Dan

I think this is a great way to capture the outdoor space and present it on one page. We have incorporated an outdoor 360 view using a different technology but thanks to @rpetersn we can display everything on one page!

Thanks to you all for the kind words and kudos. Much, much appreciated.

Please know that I'm watching all of this closely and have some additional ideas for further integration of "outside" (Theta/etc. generated) tours. If any one has suggestions re: how they'd like to see this expanded, please let me know via PM or email us at "info@wp3dmodels.com".

Thanks again!

I've tested the Ricoh theta S pans using the 3rd Party Content URL on the WP3D site to supplement the Matterport model and it works great! Super easy too.

It seems we're just limited to one 360 pan though, right?

Let's say I want to have a 360 view of the front yard and back yard, is there any way to have both show up?

I've spent the last couple months trying to find ways to point people to the Theta-S outdoor shot without using the Ricoh page where the agents see the ad's for the Theta and decide to void us out of our expertise when they see the advertisement cost of the Theta on the embed page.

I like your embed option shown above, but the page takes a long time to load. Other upload page options seem to lose picture quality for the Theta. As of today, I use https://kuula.co today as the page for embed without loosing quality. but it doesn't work for using multiple outdoor 360's.

In this page I used two Kuula links: http://virtualtourslasvegas.com/1branded/185-e-robindale-rd-las-vegas-nv-89123-windermere-homes-virtual-tour/

In this page I used Spinattic 360 loosing picture quality:
http://virtualtourslasvegas.com/1branded/348-ford-ave-las-vegas-nv-89123-gavish-homes-virtual-tour/

How are you guys incorporating the Theta into your listing pages? Anyone have examples?

Hi @VTLV, Thanks for sharing KUULA & SPINATTIC. These 3rd Party option would work well for Theta owners, bummer that the SPINATTIC version loses so much quality, eh? Note that either of these the generated URLs will fit in nicely with WP3D Model's "3rd Party Content" tool as well.

Also note that any THETA URL can be easily converted into a "fullscreen" view (without all the Theta advertising) by simply adding "?view=embed" to the end of a Theta URL.

So...this:

https://theta360.com/s/ivdOKaLUJ1zG8bGA66RtTknb6?view=embed

vs the stock (branded) version:

https://theta360.com/s/ivdOKaLUJ1zG8bGA66RtTknb6

Dan noted this above, but it might have slipped through the cracks.

Thanks!

@VTLV @rpetersn

It would be nice to see a "mock up" of KUULA and SPINATTIC + WP3D Models.

@GeorgeK

Fun to see your work-in-progress with a full page view of the 360º photo sphere.

Where's the tripod? Did you clean up the nadir or am I not looking hard enough.

Realtor of the Year. That's cool. I see why

I haven't opened up my budget to get the WP3D Models license. So that must have been the part that slipped through my cracks hitting other people up for what they are using.

.. Best I can do for you. Having trouble getting Ricoh's code to center.

@rpetersn Not sure if this has been covered... Is there a way to have 2 or more Theta 360 scans show up on a WP3D page using the "3rd-Party Content URL"? It seems for now that it's just limited to one. It'd be amazing if a frontyard scan could be switched out for a backyard scan in the same view screen with the click of the mouse, but even if they could be placed above/below each other that would also be great.

Hi @Queen_City_3D, For now, the "3rd Party Content" option accepts just one URL....but I'd look into creating something like what @immersiveprop did here:

http://immersiveprop.com/3d-model/kc-homes-model-home/skinned/

I believe this was done using PANOTOUR software.

Pretty slick eh?

Hi @Queen_City_3D - Thx...yes, what @immersiveprop did was very cool, but do note that he assembled/created that content on his own, outside of WP3D Models. If you wanted something similar TODAY you'd need to invest in the same PANOTOUR software.

Otherwise, stand by for better 360 photo integration/tools in future versions of WP3D Models....specifics TBD.

Anybody got any tips for converting a photo sphere to a 360 video? Or is there some reason I'm missing why it can't be done?

Use the timelapse feature to take 360-degree photo spheres every x seconds and convert theses still images to a movie.

Hi @mori - I'm pleased to hear that you it sounds as if you like what you've heard about WP3D Models. Any chance you'd consider a standalone (subdomain) install of WordPress with WP3D Models installed? Many others (including Dan's Gallery) were built this way.

Alternatively, if you happened to want to switch platforms (over to WP) my guess is that you could find a theme that very closely matches the functionality that you're used to.

Or maybe that approach is a little like asking a Ford guy to buy a Chevy, or a Republican to vote Democrat.
