New company vs. division of existing company169

Curious how those of you who are still photographers (though I guess it could apply to realtors also) have handled setting up your matterport business? Did you create a new company or is it a division of your photography business or just another offering of your various services? What are the benefits of the way you've chosen to set it up?

I am not a lawyer, but my lawyer basically said why start two companies when you don't have to. I have a media advertising firm and setup my imaging company as a DBA so I can brand it appropriately.

I can't see any need to split it off as a separate business, unless you have separate expenses or liabilities. Or if you employ someone to do the scans for you, whether as an employee or collaborator.
