Got tips for Matterport Scanning of an empty vessel hull for an .obj ...?14706

Hi everyone,

A client of ours has asked us if it would be possible to scan an empty vessel hull to have the 3D of the external hull in .obj file. No idea how big the ship would be but normally their ships hape 4 or 5 decks. Of course this would be while they are building it in a dry dock.

Any ideas? Thanks a lot

Here is contact info for a design company that does scanning of hulls for interior design work. They might know a thing or two about how to go about it.

I did a five deck 86 foot yacht last year for a buyer in USA. It was docked on water though so I scanned it inside and on decks but took normal pictures of its hull outside to show my client its condition. There was no other way to do it because it was docked in a space for two boats and even if I wanted I could only scan one side of the hull .

There is an example in Matterport 3D gallery of a boat secured in dry dock. Since there was an access to its hull from all sides it had its hull scanned.

These things are huge and if you need to scan the hull you may need a BLK360.

It is possible to do a 3D exterior scan of the hull using photogrammetry (a set of overlapped images that are stitched together in 3D software such as Agisoft Metashape or DroneDeploy). The exterior 3D model can then be linked to the interior 360 tour using annotations in Sketchfab.
