House rehab - Matterport + Cupix10898

Joakim360 private msg quote post Address this user
Hello WEGAN-Forum

I'm following a house rehab project. Creating a virtual tour of the location every evening afte the contractors have left.

You can access the project by visiting oppussingen.com directly, it will forward you to the latest Cupix version, or by using any of the direct links below.

Hardware: Rioch Theta Z1 + iPad
Software. Matterport + Cupix

for the workflow I scan the site using the Matterport app and then upload the same images to Cupix. Both models are completed at about the same time.

I'm using Cupix to get the side-by-side comparison effect and Matterport for the scanning app and dollhouse effect.

I do not own this house. I'm in it for the experience of documenting a project like this from start to finish. The contracters and the home owner are very exited about this project and have nothing against it beeing published online.

👍 Thanks for posting - I’m just waiting for a phone call from a (potential) client who is part-way through a house restoration & who I was hoping to introduce to exactly this service.
...and I’ll let you know the reaction/outcome.

Hi Joakim
Very interesting thanks.
Can i just ask how long it is now taking you to take the imagery each time? Also do you need to have the nodes in similar positions each time?

Hello Peter

It takes about 45 miniutes to take pictures of the area. No, but you need to cover the entire space. The volume of pictures range between 53 to 73 images.

Thanks I'm working just with Z1 and believe (in regular shape spaces)it does really well. PS I'm sure you've tried it before (although it doesn't work with Matterport and is of course slower/for other applications) but if not just try the DualFisheye Plugin's new in camera 16 bit DNG-HDR mode my trial was very good.

Now that the walls are shut its great to be able to go "back in time" and see whats inside them

I have tried that plugin, but that was a long time ago and with the Theta V. Will probably use it again if I shoot a site that does not need the Matterport dollhouse. I should also use it to shoot single 360s for social media. Thank you for reminding me of that plugin

Honestly it (the new one for Z!) transforms the cameras quality and is easy/intuitive to use without smartphone.

@Joakim360 This is great work and thank you so much for sharing with the community. I was wondering about the layouts in Cupix. Were those generated by Cupix or screenshots from Matterport model?

No problem vtg360. They are screenshots from Matterports automatic floorplan

Matterport started adding a white nadir to the 360-images captured with the Matterport Capture app.

Hello Joakim. Do you have any idea what kind of filter Matterport uses in their software? Or how can i get the same image quality in a Cupix tour? Because the diference is huge and both tours were made with the same camera...

Thanks a lot

I'm not sure how they do itpguerreiro. Its the same set of images.

I guess you could edit the images within Cupix, if you have that plugin, to get similar results.

Hello, nice samples Joakim.

There is a slider in Cupix to remove the yellow and also a blurring mask:

Original:

Yellow Removed (Cupix Adjust Color):

You'll find these same controls in any image editing program in case you want to make adjustments before uploading to Cupix.

Dark areas are best shot with an HDR camera like a Ricoh Theta Z, but adjustments like these can help. Here's some more info from the Cupix support archives.
