Theta Z1 Outdoor Scanning & Detached Guest Houses kaplan 21 20 daysJonJ (1735): For me, I do not charge different prices for Matterport tours depending on the equipment used. I believe clients are paying for the final product and the perceived value of that final product regardless of what tools/techniques were used to create that product. Case in point. For the 2 photos below, one was taken with a cell phone and the other with a "professional" camera. Can you tell which is which? That fact of the matter is that...
Ricoh Theta Z1 versus Matterport Pro2 3D Camera for Outdoor scans? Paulo 4 3 monthsWingman (1431): I cannot comment on using a Z1 with Matterport. I have just never seen any reason to do it since I have a Pro2. As for using it to capture a 360 I believe the further you are from objects the more chance you have to make a 360 without any stitching errors. It is better to stay at least 50cm away from any object and that distance applies to a Pro2 as well.
What is the best system and camera to create outdoor 360 tours? alohaman 3 3 monthsToddsFotos (60): I am not sure if this is what you are looking for. is a company out of Stockholm, Sweden that has a platform hosting VR & Aerial VR-360 for photographers. I have used them for a couple of years. The platform allows you to create interest points using icons that can be linked to 3rd party websites, video clips and more. Click this link to see a sample showcasing Stockholm on their platform. I use their platform in conjunction...
Leica BLK360 versus RTC360 for 150,000 Sq Ft exterior space? UTAG_3D_VISION 8 4 monthsdave3d (34): Thanks Doug, If pricing is anywhere close makes perfect sense if you have the availability - and it isn't Matterport. We did the BLK to also use for Matterport. It may lose a lot of time compared to the RTC but saves a lot over the Pro2. Thanks for the insight.
Using iPhone app with Pro camera for interiors and iPhone for outdoor 360's qtdesigns 5 4 monthsWingman (1431): It seems that everybody at Matterport has a bit of their CEO brain ;-) He is forgetting that their cameras are built the way that they are rotating around a specific axis just to capture 360 photo properly. That's just an impression of the man who probably has never captured a single 360 photo. No wonder he is trying to tell everyone it will work well. It can be the same if you capture it with a rotator. It can be even better with a rotator in...

Matterport Outdoor/indoor scan: is this a good plan? rastas 5 5 monthsDanSmigrod (22979): [wp3d][/wp3d]Matterport digital twin by We Get Around Chief Photographer Dan Smigrod @rastas I shot this New York City hotel penthouse during the day (and then at twilight). I hide most of the scans taken during the day. By doing this technique, at twilight, I was able to move the camera anywhere (during the limited window to get the outside lighting...
Matterport Outdoor (Sunlight) Capture with Ricoh Theta Z1? angusnorriss 6 6 monthsHomePlanNZ (207): REALLY good write up @Home3D. We're also keen to see MP release some form of vertical trimming (skylights are the bane of a good walkthrough), and manual re-alignment of scans in the capture app. We've done some testing between BLK, Pro2 and Z1 that I haven't gotten around to writing up yet. But the punchline is indoors you can't beat the quality and speed of the Pro2. Yes the Z1 is faster per scan, but you loose that time in solving...

Brain Teaser: Converting Matterport Outdoor 3D Views to 3D Scans? DanSmigrod 10 1 yearWingman (1431): Tried it now in full sunlight and I could not scan at all. It seems it can work somehow with clouds covering the Sun but once it is out and shining it won't work. With clouds though just keep looking at a minimap in Capture and make sure your next scan data is going to overlap data from any of the previous scans. If there is no Sun you should have about 2-3m of data placed around each scan(can be more if it is really cloudy) so you next...
Exterior Scan - Can they turn into point clouds? jpierce360 2 1 yearDanSmigrod (22979): @jpierce360 I could imagine that the Matterport exterior point cloud is not usable. You could order a MatterPak for your client and find out. If you do go ahead, I would under promise. You might do it as a learning experience. If the client needs an exterior point cloud, perhaps you could rent a BLK360. Best, Dan

Large Outdoor Scan - mini golf course angusnorriss 8 1 yearbryanhscott (800): @angusnorriss Very nice space! I am new to this biz, but learning as quickly as possible. Pls bear with me on a few questions: 1) Presuming all exterior scans were done in "360" vs. "3D" with the MP cam? 2) Looks like only 26 scans got this entire job done? When you mentioned part of the learning was to keep scans close together, can you estimate how far apart these are? Looks like 12-15 feet? 3) Looks like this tour was...
Help with space re-scan ... ELAN42 1 1 yearELAN42 (125): We did this recently: Due to sunlight and rain, the 3D model is bad in the main outdoor area. External 360 to 3D aligment angusnorriss 10 1 yearHome3D (2314): It'll be great when there's more user control over the process. I certainly have no knowledge of the coding complexity of these things, but it sure is easy to link 360s however you want on dashboards like NodalView. It's actually fun linking them, like making a link jump from Master Bedroom balcony to Aerial panos and back. (see attached) User control is the key. I know, much easier here than lining up point clouds, but we should have more...

Insta360 One X combination with MP Pro2 JanHamorsky 4 2 yearsRichardStanton (213): @JanHamorsky in the thread @ahojman mentions the example is using interspersed Insta360 One X shots and I left one very obvious close-together example of the same general location from each perspective. Weather permitting I should complete it soon and will...
Shooting house with sliding glass doors izoneguy 5 2 yearsahojman (186): If you cannot open it, another option is to go outside using another opening and leaving that area for the end. I don't know if you understand me: you have to reach that window from inside and them from outside, of course in one moment you need another door or window to reach there. Here you can find an example we had some time ago (the big door window was closed) but we could finally open it then (the key was there at the house): ...

360 Views and Snapshots Only? skyblue1 6 3 yearsMetroplex360 (9290): @skyblue1 I personally think that that's a good idea. Matterport may consider adding 'Core360' - a mode in Workshop that allows free shooting of 360s with GeoCoordinates from the Pro-2 camera. No 3D Model. If they want, they could treat 100 360s as 1 model. They could then have a special player for their Matterport Core 360 that doesn't utilize 3D. 3D Showcase vs Direct Sunlight Conditions matthew 6 3 yearsJonJ (1735): I agree with Douglas with regards to how this scan is possible. By my estimation, the camera is set to a height of only 3 ft 6 inches. The scan positions are also very close together. The third thing that makes this possible is the fact that all of the surfaces available are solid. This allows for sufficient structures to allow for correlation of scan points. Also important to note is the fact that the dollhouse view is very incomplete....

Apartment balcony Scans Viewtech3D 8 4 yearsViewtech3D (16): Hi Thanks for the advice and the contact I will look into that. With regard to lower shots they were for the still internal shots however I cant delete them now as I used them in the Gallery. I should have saved the original scan as I have now deleted balcony scans in capture, but in future if I label door to balcony as window it should give a better image when looking back onto the apartment? It was the brick wall I was concerned with. Thanks

Queues For Successful Scan Outdoors thebiggerpicture 11 4 yearsJonJ (1735): When I say done, I mean you have captured everything in the space that you want/are able to in the first pass. There may still be areas that need to be filled in due to excessive sunlight. In this case I will move on to the next space and then circle back to the first room when light conditions are more favorable. I only do this if there are no blinds or shades that I can close. If there are shades, I just close them to capture the geometric...
Workshop Failed to Load (for specific model) Queen_City_3D 8 4 yearsPetraSoderling (752): Hmm.. weird. The Workshop icon has changed for me and instead of the green/blue color box that says 'Workshop' it is now showing one or more screenshots from a room. This happens with all of my customer accounts right now. I've emailed MP, hope to hear from them soon.

Would this feature request be helpful to you with this model, if it was an option? Dan

Anything that deliberately hurts the economy is an enemy of the people. It's just another way to steal more money from a supposed free people. It's us against them, as there is no representation. We need another tea party.

Long Hallway scan issue craigsauer 5 5 yearscraigsauer (1042): Ah! That's what I was missing. I was stuck thinking both these issues were related to the long hallways, but actually they are unrelated issues. The hotel issue was that the hallway was long and featureless and the house issue was that because the hallway was too sunny I tried to scan outside before completing the house. Thanks! Craig
Exterior Scan Issues GarySnyder 22 5 yearsGarySnyder (1822): Hi Ron I had the very same issues especially with the 180 degrees to black. If you didn't know what was going on you would almost be lost in space as there is nothing unless you are aware you need to turn around and see the other half of the scan. I wonder if there has been some losses on their development team and the staff who are now developing the capture app are not as good and what we're seeing as well as paying the prices are these...
Don't start a scan outside! rpetersn 12 5 yearsGarySnyder (1822): It would appear that the most recent update to the capture app or camera have increased the sensitivity to IR as well as letting the capture app accept scans that should have been rejected (cant's access the circles). This is discussed in detail in the forum below. Where I experienced the very same issues. There's a very good response from Glenn at MP who states that it's now...
