Creating a Point Cloud file (.pts) from a Matterport Objective File (.obj) is now easy, fast and affordable.

Veriscian Business Development Executive - and MUG Forum Member – @JoshReadhead wrote this We Get Around guest blog post about how Matterport Pro 3D Camera Photographers can use his company's solution to do this conversion.

Photographers: How to Convert a Matterport Object File (.OBJ) to a Point Cloud File (.PTS) for CAD 3D Modeling

Why Converting a Matterport Model to a Point Cloud Matters

Josh includes these construction project examples in his post:

1. Importing models of an existing site to use as a template for modeling site layout and structure

2. Perform visual clash detection with proposed design in the context of the existing site

3. Generate renderings of proposed design changes with existing site for planning discussions

4. Accurately capture a site “as constructed” at the end of a project for updating the CAD model for handover

If you need a SketchUp File (.SKP) created from the Matterport Object File, please see this related Matterport User Group Forum thread post about We Get Around Architect and Associate Photographer @YairYepez pioneering the We Get Around proprietary process for converting a Matterport Object File (.OBJ) to a SketchUp File (.SKP).

In this free Dropbox, you'll find examples of both Point Cloud and SketchUp Files.

How might you use these solutions to add value to your scanning service and to increase business from clients outside of houses for sale?

And, what questions or comments do you have about the Veriscian Point Cloud solution?

Best,

Dan

Dan,
I did not see a price breakdown for this feature, is there one? I have been researching this file conversion for a while and am glad that someone finally came up with a solution. I have found other companies and software and they have either been unreliable conversions or the software to do the conversion has been to expensive.

@cdpmedia
If you go thru the sight webpage it lists the price at $3.99 per conversion. This is an excellent price and process.
