Hi All,

Within a a year or two, we will be scanning a 10,000 SQ FT house in an hour by mashing up:

1. an autonomous drone
2. a Tango tablet (capture data)
3. a 1-click 360º camera (capture photography)

I could also imagine that the Tango table and 1-click 360º camera are replaced by Facebooks new Surround 360 video F24 camera licensed to an equipment manufacturer.

From The Verge (19 April 2017):

“We capture and then we can estimate depth,” says Brian Cabral, an engineering director at Facebook who leads Surround 360 development. “We actually compute for every pixel where it is in the scene.” Once the pixel has a location, he says, viewers can view it from any perspective as it if were part of a real-life scene. After the depth estimation process, which Facebook handles with its own custom software in the cloud, the video then can be edited with any number of standard post-processing toolsets from Adobe, Foundry, and others.

Take a look of the videos (and the dates created).

What do you think? Is this pie-in-the-sky or likely to happen?

Sure would be nice to see an announcement like this at Google Street View Summit in Tokyo 10-11 May 2017 where I will be live streaming and reporting for the Forum Community.

Will Matterport attach their camera to a drone? Obviously change up the tech etc. I have dreamed of a drone mapping a house and taking multiple photos along the way for years!

Instant video through Mapping. Stand outside the home, map the entire outside of the house then fly inside while we are still standing outside. Then all we'll have to do is change the battery on the drone and send it to the cloud when done.

It'l need to cost $30,000 to keep it out of the hands of Realtors or we will all be out of a Job if this day ever comes.

Just a little note: Drone doesn't have to be a quadcopter or UAV. It can be a wheeled or tracked robot.
