Hi folks,

I just hired someone to help me with scans, and on his first attempt, he managed to let the camera slide off the tripod (sheesh!)...

luckily, it was in a bedroom and was a soft (ish) landing. The camera is working fine, but i can hear something that sounds loose inside.... i wanted to open the camera case and have a look, but i don't see an easy to way to open the case.

Has anyone ever opened a camera? I can send it back to MP for inspection/repair, but i'm concerned about the downtime.

Thoughts?

Sorry folks... didn't see a notification to indicated there were any replies for some reason...so never looked back after starting the thread, my apologies.

Thanks for the responses.. I am an electronic engineer by profession, so was not concerned about breaking her open.. i do know what i'm doing, so i had to at least take a peek.

Interestingly, it wasn't difficult - the caps which i thought were solid, were only covers in the end and came away easily.

Have to say - i was really impressed with the build quality of this camera, my rattle, was just a plastic guide that had popped from its position, it likely wouldn't have impacted functionality had i left it, but it was a 1 minute job to clip back once i had the right access. To dismantle, repair and put back together took me 5 mins. Had i sent it back to Matterport, i'd have lost weeks.

Saying that !

I DO NOT recommend that anyone do the same thing, its not for the inexperienced, but it does make me wonder how Matterport would have handled it... do you think they would loan a replacement whilst a repair is carried out? I just wonder what the potential down time could have been.

@David.. yes i have insurance that would cover the cost of the repair if needed... but my concern was the down time as i had a raft of upcoming bookings that i didn't want to put at risk... i'd buy a spare if they were cheaper

To some up:

1) I got very lucky
2) If trusting new staff - emphasise the importance of proper handling and the importance of ensuring the clamp is checked a multiple stages of the job.
2) Don't try this at home kids
3) Phew...
4) Phew...
